How to Choose the Best Vacuum For You
Is there anything worse than vacuuming?! Well, vacuum shopping can be actually. There are so many types out there and so many manufacturers. Robots, uprights, cordless, handheld...the list goes on. If one person you ask loves theirs, the next person hates the same one. So, how do you choose the best vacuum for your needs?
Here are a few things to look for/consider:
- Purchase the BEST vacuum within your budget. Going for the cheapest vacuum is not the best choice because with vacuums you typically get what you pay for.
- Go for a vacuum that has lots of attachments. You want to be able to use one vacuum for floors, furniture, getting into crevices, dusting, etc. If you find a vacuum that stores all the extra attachments right on the machine, even better!
- Bag vs canister? Sure, it can be inconvenient to purchase new bags, but you should also consider that a lot of dirt and dust escapes when you are emptying the dirt/dust from the canister. Bagged vacuum cleaners are still around, but make sure to buy from a reputable manufacturer. This means there will be less chance of the bags being discontinued in the future.
- If you have hardwood floors that you plan on vacuuming, look for a unit that has an option to turn off the brush/roller. This will save your floors from scratches.
- If you or someone in your home has allergy issues, you should consider getting a vacuum with a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter. This type of filter will keep grab even the tiniest particles, preventing them from spitting back into the air.
- Pet hair! Not all vacuum cleaners are great with picking up your pet's hair, so you’ll want to put in some extra time researching machines that are good with pet hair. Reading reviews online from other consumers can be very helpful for this.
